Goal
Mobilize and involve the dairy industry and its partners in ensuring responsible dairy production that contributes to the fight against climate change and makes a growing economic and social contribution.
Background
In 2021, the PLQ began to work with the Chair in Eco-Consulting at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi on evaluating its actions based on the United Nations’ (UN) targets and goals. Based on its findings, it was able to set targets for improvement and create an action plan to successfully reach them. This process aims to provide the organization and producers with effective individual and collective tools to hit their targets and continuously improve their performance.
Process
This approach was carried out in a transparent and inclusive manner, according to the internationally recognized reference framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To do this, the Chair in Eco-Consulting at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi conducted a diagnosis of the level of integration of sustainable development in the organization’s activities and supported Les Producteurs de lait du Québec in defining priorities and identifying associated actions.
The diagnosis made it possible to identify actions already undertaken that need to be consolidated, as well as new actions, in order to continue the efforts of the organization and producers. The prioritization of the UN SDG targets, which consists of cross-referencing the performance of targets relevant to the organization with their importance, identified 6 priority targets, 30 medium-term targets and 28 targets to be consolidated.
