In 2018, Les Producteurs de lait du Québec donated 1,241,839 litres of milk to less fortunate families, including over 40,000 litres of milk to approximately one hundred organizations throughout the province for the Christmas season.
“Milk is a nutritious food that is good for our health. Through its donations, Les Producteurs de lait du Québec hopes to help financially-deprived families in Quebec get the milk and dairy products they need throughout the year,” stated Bruno Letendre, Chair of Les Producteurs de lait du Québec.
The Quebec dairy industry’s milk and dairy product donation program was set up in 2003. In the last 16 years, producers, transporters and processors from the dairy sector have joined forces to distribute over 10 million litres of milk, in the form of various dairy products, to the least fortunate in society.
The milk donation program is an authentic milk donation program that is planned on an ongoing and annual basis. In 2018, 391,663 litres of milk were donated to Food Banks of Quebec. During the year, Les Producteurs de lait du Québec and selected partners donated an additional 850,176 litres of milk.
In Quebec, over 400,000 people suffer from food insecurity, including 150,000 children. The Food Banks network has over 1,200 organizations that answer nearly 1.9 million emergency food aid requests every month. Food and monetary donations help feed thousands of Quebecers every day.
